Coronavirus Stimulus Package - Coronavirus Supplement

The Australian Government has announced a range of packages intended to support individuals through these challenging times. It is important to understand the key aspects of the package and how you can benefit from them. It is equally important to understand how these measures could impact you in the long-term.
Coronavirus Supplement
The Government has announced a $550 per fortnightly payment to eligible Australians.This will commence from the 27 April 2020 for a period of 6 months. This supplement is available for people under;
  • Jobseeker Payment
  • Youth Allowance 
  • Parenting Payment (Partnered and Single)
  • Farm Household Allowance
  • Special Benefits recipients
To support Australians access these payments, Centrelink has made changes on its normal waiting periods for the jobseeker payments. These changes include;
  • Suspending the 1 week waiting period that normally applies for 3 months, beginning 12 March 2020
  • Waiving asset tests from 27 April 2020 for 6 months
However, normal income testing will apply and employees will not be able to access other entitlements such as Annual leave, Long Service Leave, Sick pay or any income protection insurances whilst getting the Jobseeker payments.
Who can access this supplement
  • A permanent employee who's lost their job
  • A casual or contract worker who's had a significant reduction in working hours.  
  • A sole trader or self employed who's had a reduction in income, working hours or business revenue.

To access the benefits, you must have a myGov account. All applications can be made online.
